D.O. Tierras de Castilla y León
“Wine of Castilla and León" is a protected geographical indication referred to wines, which are produced with grapes from this region and do not belong to another appellation such as D.O Toro, D.O Bierzo, D.O Ribera del Duero ...
The great extent of the region is the reason for its geological variety. The vineyards are located in soils formed by clayey materials in areas of the plateau, and by granite or slate in the most important elevations areas. They are under the influence of a Continental Mediterranean climate wiht cold and long winters (average temperature between 19ºC and 22ºC). The typical summer drought lasts four months and the rains falls are in general scarce with 450 mm as annual average although in some areas rainfalls reach 1500 mm in a yearly basis.
The high altitude the plateau and its mountains emphasizes the contrast between winter and summer temperatures, as well as the huge contrast between day /night temperatures.
